We had a wonderful dinner here last night - not a bit of anything left on our plates. My Shrimp and Grits was one of the best meals I've eaten; perfectly seasoned with so much flavor and plenty of shrimp. We also had the clams and linguini, the beef bistro and the fish tacos -- everyone was happy. A delicious and reasonably priced Washington Cabernet made us even happier. Look forward to returning the next time we are in CdA, and would love to try the tapas and happy hour.

Ordered take out while sipping a beer at the Slate Creek Brewery. Two magi tacos and the Mediterranean plate. Cost co samples are larger portions. Don't waste your money. The flavor was okay, but there is better.

We have been here way too many times to even count (for breakfast, lunch and dinner), but it has gone way down hill in the past year and we don't know why. The service is painfully slow, the food is flat, dull and usually flavorless and the quality of the ingredients seem to have declined. We kept going back, because we really wanted to love it again, like we used to. But after today's poor lunch experience...we won't be back.

Very good place. We regularly stop in Coeur d'Alene for lunch on the way to Hayden Lake from Pullman. Usually go to Capone's. Switched it up today and glad we did. Very nice spot on 4th street. I had the shrimp and grits and hubby had French onion soup and a Cuban panini. The sandwich was 5 star. Hubby said one of the best Cubans ever with a twist. Usually Cubans made with pickles but this had peppercinis. We both loved it. As for the soup, he would give it a 5 but I say 4, a titch bland for me. I enjoyed my shrimp and grits. Grits slightly thick (I prefer then a bit thinner and served liked mashed potatoes) but flavor spot on. Shrimp cooked perfectly. We would both order these dishes again. We were greeted promptly and sat in a cozy booth. Ambiance is relaxing and nice. We will be back!

Brunch was great and a good price. Got the Crepes which had goat cheese and duck confit with a berry compote. Then we also got huevos rancheros they had Sake Marys too. We didn't have to wait on a table for brunch. Hopefully more people explore this for Sunday Brunch!

The service was prompt and thorough. We started with the French Onion Soup. It is as good as one can find. Unfortunately, they charge extra for the house bread. Our entrees were the lamb shank and the gumbo. Both meals rated 3 stars for flavor. The portion was adequate so overall the perceived value is satisfactory. My date said that the gumbo was lackluster, like paying for an entree that was more like soupy rice, all one flavor. The dessert we chose was sorbet and 2 truffles. What was good about the dessert is that was very affordable and small portions. A great concept. Our dining experience was overall pretty good. I would like to return and try the duck, to see if one of the menu items can impress.

Quite disappointing food. I'm not from Coeur D'Alene, so maybe the standards for "good quality food" here are not as high as they might be in larger cities. I was here with a group of 12 people, on a weekend for dinner. They had put the tables (in the front room) together, between the musician stage and the booths against the wall. Fine. Only, we were fairly close to the stage, and the solo singer/guitarist -- while good -- was loud enough that we literally couldn't hear each other speak. What restaurant does this? And why? If you want to be "hip" and have music serenading your patrons, fine. But be reasonable and make sure it isn't above a certain level so it doesn't interfere with people's dinners. We're not there to listen to music, we're there to eat. We even asked the staff to get it turned down a few notches, and they in turn asked the musician. But the musician only took it down slightly, and frankly, it shouldn't be HIS decision on volume level. BAD management and/or ownership decision on this. Strike one. Food: I ordered the Top Sirloin Steak, defined as a "baseball cut," with a caesar salad to start. The salad did not have enough caesar dressing on it, so I (and another of our group who also didn't have enough) asked for more. It took at least 8-10 minutes for more dressing to come, because the kitchen had to make more. (What??) This caesar dressing was also among the worst I've ever had. Worse than store-bought dressing. Even the croutons this place serves sucked. How is that possible? Not a good start with the food. Strike two. When the steak arrived, it sat on some potatoes, with broccoli florets on one side. Not a great looking presentation, but frankly, I don't take points off for that. As we started eating, my first bite was just barely warm. Not hot. Not just off the grill. Barely warm. Clearly it had been sitting somewhere (and not under a heat lamp) while presumably waiting for other dishes to be ready for our table. The person across from me who'd gotten the same thing said her steak was cold. As the server came around the table to check on us, I said my steak wasn't hot. She asked if I'd like it put back on the grill, or a new one. (And I will say, overall, our server did a good job through the evening, except for one thing.) I hemmed and hawed for a moment, debating between a steak that may go from my desired medium to well-done if put back on the grill, or waiting another 15+ minutes for a new one. I opted for a new one. About 15 minutes later, a new one comes out. Only now, for some very strange reason, the cook/chef cut this steak into about 7 slices. Why he would do this, I have no f*cking idea. It was hot, so it had just come off the grill, but why cut it? That's going to cause the steak to cool faster as it's being eaten. Also, this one was medium rare, and not medium. Furthermore (if that wasn't enough), this steak came naked on the plate -- no potatoes, no broccoli. Really? What frickin' chef in any fine dining place would do this? Did the real chef call in sick and the replacement they got was from a local Denny's?? And the one mistake our server made, was she should never have delivered this plate to the table like this. She's the last "line of defense" for kitchen problems, and should have told the cook this is unacceptable. And if she doesn't feel she can say that to the kitchen, then tell the manager and have them tell the kitchen. Very, very disappointing meal. For a $21 steak, this is just not acceptable. If their crappy Denny's chef cannot time 12 meals to be ready all within 1-2 minutes of each other, then they should just stay at Denny's. Cooking steaks and then letting them sit and get cold because other meals for a table aren't ready, is amateur hour. Strike three for the first steak, the subsequent steak, the salmon another person got who said it was overcooked, and the Shrimp & Grits that another said was "just okay." And you know what 3 Strikes means... We won't be back.

How do you muck up reheating precooked quiche and soup from a vat...well, let me tell ya...quiche nuked to point of brick and soup(asparagus-watery and not strained to a smooth consistency...no cream in sight) ice cold! Served with undressed greens...ugh! Used to love this place...this was unbelievably bad...

We finally went to Bistro on Spruce and sooo glad that we did! Atmosphere warm and inviting, music not too loud. Friendly staff with the owner, Chris, front and center. He's paying attention, hands-on and funny, to boot! First of all, he has put together the best wine list in town. He knows what he is doing, sadly, most other restaurants don't have delicious offerings, then, we don't go back. Food prepared consciously and with excellence. Again, Chris has chosen something for everyone, including some dinners under $20. (has a burger & tacos too), delicious appetizers, entrees, you-name-it, he has it. Tried Happy Hour last evening, offers $4 bites and 1/2 price wines by the glass (they have a Malbec that's the best I've tasted), dinner hour boasts 1/2 wine bottles on Tuesday, you can't beat that! We know a bit about restaurants, having worked in them, but, mainly, as a guest, we know tasty food and reasonable prices. One doesn't have to wait for special occasions, go to Bistro on Spruce, anytime, you'll feel like you're having a special occasion. MCH & PBH

Sat outside, nice little view but painfully hard wire chairs, I had to use my top shirt for a cushion-still wasn't enough. Slow service. Hot day that early evening...still no water yet. We almost heaved up and left after the first 15 minutes, then the waitress finally materialized. Small inside. Were told that nice far booth was reserved but there was no marker on it. Just got an app and some wine. Good enough. But the place is small which is a detractor- can fill up fast and not many booths, maybe only 3. Bar:...eh; not too cozy and too center, non intimate for my own comfort. I don't want to say 'divey' but its a bit dark inside. And again, the iron chairs could have at least had a slight cushion. In summer especially- sweaty? Grill marks.

Very disappointing late breakfast at Bistro on Spruce this a.m. One other table occupied, two servers apparent. Sub-par breakfast, Beloved's Boxty and Bangers were drowning in Demi glacé , my corned beef hash was fatty, not hash, really, my eggs were over cooked. No gluten free bread options available. Not a good day for breakfast in CDA.

Cons: Not impressed. I'm a total foodie and expected way more for price. Can't believe how much $$ we spent while leaving hungry. This was our annual taxes treat for the family and were all dissatisfied and now broke --Ordered 4-$4 happy hour apps. All this is is less food for lower price. A few bites per appetiser and they sounded better than they tasted :( -- no salad or soup with your meal!??? Maybe bread? --very small portions, I mean come on, potatoes aren't expensive. --Steak and red potatoes, had to use table salt! --Caesar salad, where's the dressing? Pros: Love the happy hour wine! Great atmosphere. I'd love to try other dishes to complete my review as the menus is very interesting however I have to get full when I go out to eat for this money.

Amazing food and happy hour here. I was very impressed with the quality of food, the service and the price. Wine list wasn't long, but decent varieties for not too much money. I don't know about the rest of the menu, but it sounded delicious and I would definitely return! Yum!

We wandered on into town in a whim and after a stroll near the lake, found ourselves ready for lunch. Bistro on Spruce was a lucky find. You'll find great big windows to let in the afternoon sunshine and the staff is just as warm. They really do cater to every need you may have, as you'll find a pair (or two) of reading glasses just to help you peep at the menu, if necessary. I happen to wear contact lenses but I did note the hospitality. We had some salads and a meatless ruben sandwich. It was an overall success as far as lunch was concerned. When in Idaho next, I'm sure we'll return.

Went here with friends who just recently moved to cdl. They have been to this restaurant before and had liked it. The service was excellent ambience vey nice. We started with the deep fried artichoke app served with a aoile , I also ordered the beef and polenta app I thought the beef was chewy and a very small portion of beef. I ordered the duck confit which they did not have avalible so after a few more moments of decision making I went with the clams in a broth served with toasted bread unfortunately every bite of clam was gritty ......nasty , my friends had the jumbolia which he really liked and his wife had the smoked salmon in a tomato cream sauce which she also enjoyed if I lived in the area I may live here I may give this establishment another try

I'm not gonna spend a lot of time on this one, because I don't want to, and I don't think the situation warrants it. It's a good restaurant. They have some items on the menu that are at least a little more interesting and a little more exciting than your average IHOP or other chain style restaurant. It's a decent restaurant, for sure. I don't think anyone is going to be angered by Bistro on Spruce, but I also don't think anyone is going to be amazed either. Definitely a cut above your average restaurant (especially if you're going to go for breakfast and compare it to an IHOP or similar), but I think there are better choices in town.

This little place has really grown on me. The owner of the Bistro is so friendly, you just can't help but to like him. The food is always different, and fresh. If you can I highly recommend sitting in one of their quaint booths. They are a great little spot for an intimate meal. Our food was a little late to arrive, but all in all a great time was had

I have eaten at this bistro twice and both times the food has been good to very good. Bistro probably shines in its value - they give you a very nice (semi-upscale) dining experience at a very moderate price. None of their dishes have been "wow" items but there has been nothing that disappointed either. Service both times was attentive and with a typical Spokane/CDA person's knowledge of food items. Overall a solid 4 stars and I wouldn't hesitate to return with friends or family.

We went here to break up our tour of hitting up Coeur d'Alene's breweries. It was time to sober up some! We were not too terribly hungry but we did want something to eat. Not enough to get our own entrees though. The service here was good. No doubt about that at all. The food? It was disappointing. We ordered two appetizers. They had several flat bread appetizers but we went with their special that night. This was a flatbread spread with fig jam, some greens with duck breast on top. I don't often eat duck because it is rich and sweeter. A little bit goes a long ways. The appetizer was fantastic though! The fig jam and the duck complimented each other perfectly! No complaints on that appetizer at all. They should post this one regularly in their menu. We also ordered skewers from the appetizer menu. One skewer a piece for each of us. Steve had no problem with his skewer which was composed of two pieces of beef and a mushroom. The flavor was good but one whole piece of meat on my skewer was gristle and was not palatable at all. Cutting it with a knife bore no desirable results. Overall I considered that appetizer a failure. We ordered desserts as well. Steve got something chocolate with ice cream. It was good. I have been wanting carrot cake for a while and got theirs. It was just ok. I will give it high marks on freshness but overall it was bland. They had the sweet frosting that comes with the carrot cake. Sweeter than many but it did not win me over. I love my carrot cake where I can taste the carrot, ginger and nuts all in one fantastic bite but that magic simply was not there on this one. It seems clear that this restaurant makes some dishes quite well and others need some work. I would consider going back but the place is on the higher end side and is a bit more pricey. With what looks like like a hit and miss phenomenon going on here makes me reluctant.

Went to dinner there with friends because the menu sounded good. I ordered an appetizer that had a great description but was awful. It was truly inedible. I told the waitress about it and she just shrugged her shoulders. We ordered a bottle of wine and tried to order another and they were out of stock. No apologies, no suggestions for another, nothing! The service was very uncaring -- no manager appeared to see if things could be improved. We spent approx. $150 for 4 of us and it was not a good night. I emailed the restaurant the next day telling them of our unhappiness and no response was ever received. This business does not care ---- we will not be back. There are many nice places in CdA to eat. This is not one of them.

Great breakfast! Highly recommend the "Scottish eggs"! Friendly wait staff. Only reason for 3 stars instead of 5: the food arrived cold after an exceptionally long wait... Almost like our plates were sitting for some time before being brought out. Nonetheless, I will be back!

Enjoyed Bistro on Spruce. Food was well prepared and satisfying. Wait staff was friendly and prompt. We rode here on bikes from the Centennial Trail and it was pretty warm out - the waiter noticed (without us even mentioning) and brought us an entire pitcher of water since we were dining outside. Had a ristoto that was delicious although the entire meal left us feeling very positive about the 1.5 mile cycle from the trail.

I have eaten here with friends 5 or 6 times over the past year. It is my favorite place in CdA now. Yes food portions are smallish because the food is very rich. The pork chop dinner is one of my favorites. I can't eat all of it so bring some home for lunch the next dat. Their Blue Cheese salad dressing is the best I've ever had. I always order a side salad with dinner. We had the special for lunch one day and it was made with a portobello mushroom and served on a bed of sautéed spinach. Delicious! The staff has always welcomed us with open arms even the night we went after getting the boat out of the water. Also on another occasion I met a group of ladies there for lunch and we got the private dining room....and nothing but smiles when our waitress passed out all the individual checks. If I find a "con" there in the future I'll come back and add it.

While visiting Coeur D'Alene from the Bay Area I was visited the Bistro for lunch. It was a foody's paradise! The Chicken sandwich with brie was superb, as was the soup of the day. They have a great wine menu, and I tried a superb Carmenere from Chile. The staff was very friendly and the service was great. The prices seemed very fair for the style of food offered. I was wishing I was in town longer so I could go back and try to $3.75 tapas!!! What a DEAL!! It also looked like a great place to gather with friends!

Stopped in with new and old friends for a farewell dinner after Ride Idaho and were astounded by the food and atmosphere. There was a high quality jazz trio playing and I almost died and went to heaven after consuming the clam appetizer as well as the clam linguine - every single one cooked to perfection! Maybe I can convince the cook to start a place in my hometown?

I've been here for both breakfast and a few times for dinner and it was pleasant each time. The service has always been friendly and for the most part attentive. The only time I remember it lacking was during breakfast our waitress didn't refill our coffee as often we would like, and there was only a few other customers at the time. Overall, the food is fresh and flavorful, but a little on the pricey side. The service is mostly on par. I will be back to enjoy the atmosphere, live music and good food.

What a wonderful dining experience. Foodies take note, during November, 2012, they are having a 5th anniversary special of a 5 course sampler menu with a pairing of 5 wines! What a unique dining experience with a holiday flair. it was delicious and unique from the Butternut Bisque through the shrimp, duck, beef and Chocolate Roulade paired with Chardonnay, Grigio, Noir, Malbec and Reserve Port. All for $29.95. You can't experience this at Beverly's at the CDA Resort. My husband had the Chicken Marsala with the Linguine. It was a nice portion and wasn't over sauced. Pasta was cooked perfectly, great meal!

Found this by Yelping "soup" near Coeur d'Alene. As it turns out, neither of the soups on offer tonight were veggie, so I passed on soup, but all-in-all the choices were most pleasing, and we'd found exactly what we wanted--a nice, but casual, light dinner. I ended up ordering the side-salad size spinach salad with almonds and figs (great!) and an appetizer consisting of delicious hummus, soft feta, and artichoke heart/tomato stuff with very fresh pita wedges. The wine choices were thoughtful and varied too.

Great evening ruined! My wife and I stopped in this evening based on all the great reviews. The food and wine were exceptionally good! The service was almost nonexistent...because there were only 2 servers (maybe a third in another section) for a very large crowd..parking-lot-full busy! We waited for a long time for our check while giving up on the desert order. We went to the bar to pay and witnessed the all-important "manager/boss/bartender" badgering our server to tears for some minor mistake with another customer's bill; she escaped his wrath by leaving the area. She was clearly overwrought and exhausted, and now humiliated in public by this obnoxious bully! (My wife found her and gave her a large tip) This man needs to apologize to this hard-working woman. He needs to learn how to act professionally in public. And if he is the boss or owner, then perhaps he needs to find a new career where he is encouraged to badger and humiliate large muscular men in public.

What a great surprise. We were passing through & went to Yelp to look for a place to and found the Bistro to be delightfully grreat. It lived up to all the other 5 Star reviews. When in Coeur d'Alene, don't miss it.

The food was fantastic, the service was friendly and the location was adorable despite being in a converted car dealership. Went in the Saturday night before my Ironman and had the house salad and the mushroom risotto (I don't do pre-race pasta)...creamy, mushroomy, especially lovely texture on the mushrooms. My family and I also liked the fresh, wild salmon special. I was impressed with the texture on the pasta dishes my sister and dad had ... NOT overcooked (thank goodness). Also impressive were the number of options that didn't include beef or pork ... very nice menu - something for everyone without being overwhelming. I should also mention that they had a fantastic live jazz combo playing the standards and the best carrot cake my dad has ever tasted. Dad doesn't drop compliments like that very easily. A great value for the price too... recommend to anyone looking for tasty food in a welcoming, cozy venue.

Went to the bistro on Saturday and it was fairly busy. The hostess was very nice and seated us at the bar until a table was ready. The bartender was also very pleasant and gave us water until our table was ready. There was a live two man jazz band playing which made a nice atmosphere. The entrees were reasonably priced (9-17) and delicious. Everyone enjoyed the restaurant very much and the environment was cozy and welcoming. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for interesting, semi-fine dining dishes, good drinks, and nice staff.

After a shockingly poor experience at another restaurant down the street, my wife and I stopped at Bistro on Spruce while passing through Coeur d'Alene. All in all, not a bad spot. The service was courteous and fairly attentive, especially given that they seemed to be in the process of setting up the inside dining room while we were out on the patio. The halibut fish tacos were quite tasty and their gazpacho was quite refreshing (if a bit off, due to an obviously heavy hand when they attempted to drizzle olive oil on top.) Though it's clearly not their specialty, the kitchen had no problem accommodating my wife's vegan diet. Her pesto and veggie farfalle pasta, though not remarkable, was hot and flavorful and the proportion of added tofu was quite generous. The beer and wine lists were decent, as well. If you find yourself in the area, it's worth a stop, especially if the weather permits use of the front patio seating.

I took my Mom here for dinner & was hoping to have a nice dining experience. The service was amazing - we went early & hit half price wine & $3.95 tapas. I tried a house special, Maltese Caponata with Prosciutto on Crostini that was really good. I had duck confit & Mom had salmon & french onion soup. She loved the soup, salmon, beautiful risotto cake & nicely prepared green beans. The only disappointment I had was my carrots - it looked like they just dumped them from the grocery store bag & boiled them - they were those little, wittled down carrots. I mean, Hindquarter of duck confit, seared, then topped with Huckleberry-port sauce and served with grilled herb & goat cheese polenta and we stopped trying carrots - I know they can do better! Service was awesome, food (other than carrots) did not disappoint. I would go back if I was in CDA..but ask for another veg.

I was planning to have brunch at Garnet Cafe but didn't realize they closed at 1 so I just tried this place on a whim. I had the crab and lobster cake benedict and it was absolutely delicious. Pricey, though. Lunch for one was almost $20 (and that was with just an iced tea to drink). I'll definitely go back but can't exactly be a regular at those prices! Update: I came back to this restaurant for lunch (I had the fish tacos) and for tapas and was underwhelmed at the quality of the food. However, I'll definitely go back for the benedict (which is now a salmon cake rather than a crab and lobster cake).

Food, service and atmosphere were great. I would definitely recommend this place to a friend. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and made some great suggestions. I had the linguine with clams. It was great. It was served with a pound of steamers...so, I had more than enough to eat. My husband had the Bistro Beef. He was very pleased with the meal and cleaned his plate. I had the wine 'off the wall' and would recommending going with the special. It was worth it. Prices were reasonable for the portions. Don't feel like I was shorted at all, but also don't feel like I did not get enough. The portions seemed right.

First time going to Bistro on Spruce and enjoyed their lunch menu immensely. We are putting it on our "to-frequent" list whenever in CDA. Our 4-year old enjoyed it as well which is always a big deal in the family. Hubbie had the Monte Cristo which was awesome (I had a bite). I liked that it wasn't deep fried, very impressive. I had a croissant sandwich and their potato soup, I would like their soup to be more chunky but the flavor was there.

Excellent food and service. We are passing through the area and used Yelp to find a few suggestions for dinner. The first one we tried was too busy and we were lucky enough to get straight in here. We got seated immediately and served quickly. We ordered drinks, appetizers and main courses. As the driver I was on iced tea. Every time it got a little low someone dropped by to fill it up. The courses turned up reasonably quickly and the food was excellent. I would have no problem recommending this restaurant to my friends. One very nice feature, each table had a glass containing a slip of paper saying "Random Acts of Kindness" and a pair of reading glasses. This makes a world of difference to some of us older folks who should be using glasses and aren't or who forgot them. Very nice touch.

Went there for dinner the other night. Have always heard good things, and they seem to be true. The staff is very friendly, but not constantly hovering. the food is very good. I had the Paella and was very pleased. Best part, the prices are not to high for the food you get.

This is one of my FAVORITE restaurants! The service is superb and the food is top notch. Currently, Tuesday's special is 40% off bottled wine, so my girlfriends and I get together once a week to have a glass of wine and catch up without spending alot of money.

The service was absolutely terrible here. When we first walked in, the place had maybe 2-3 tables of customers, but mostly empty. After asking the first server we could find for a table of 6, he seemed incredibly confused and unable to comprehend. We asked if it was ok for us to push a table of 4 with 2, and he's like um, go ahead. So we combined tables, we then waited 20 minutes before anyone came back with a menu. After ordering food, it was over an hour before getting the food, and the waitress after setting the food down for half of the party (by which time we were starving), rather than apologize, says to us "it was worth the wait, huh?" ... not asking if the food was good (and considering only half the table had food, the others could only hungrily stare), but rather just a statement that it's fine to have terrible service if your food is good. At one point during the meal, someone from our table finally got up and went to the kitchen area and grabbed a pitcher to refill water at the table because no one ever came by. In the end, half of the table only got part of the food they ordered (came with wheat/sourdough/rye bread, but never got that) and the servers were rude and inattentive considering the restaurant was not even close to half full. Food was definitely NOT worth the wait or rude wait staff.

We have been going for brunch here for a year on weekends. Great Eggs Benedict! Service is attentive and pleasant. We have taken our friends and visiting family members here and all have enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service.

Good food, OK service. I went for their tapas/happy hour specials, which was a great deal at $4 a plate. I got a house salad which was really simple but the dressing was great, risotto, tuna and fig and chevre bruschetta. All in all, it was good but I wasn't super impressed by anything I had. The fig and chevre bruschetta was the most disappointing, I was expecting large chunks of goat cheese with figs but instead I got large chunks of balsamic soaked figs and a shaving of goat cheese... I also had the huckleberry creme brulee so I could sample something local, and that was even more disappointing than the bruschetta. The herries were frozen and made the rest of the desert mush....

Read the reviews on Yelp as I was driving through Coeur d'Alene on my cross country road trip and decided to stop and try this Bistro. And after living for a year in New York and trying many many restaurants in Manhattan, I have to say that I am really glad that I stopped here. From the salad to main course and dessert, everything was excellent! Service and price were very good too!

Ate here last night (a Wed night) for a birthday dinner. The host (perhaps owner?) was very gracious and especially accommodating to our 1-yr and 3-yr olds. He gave us a coloring book and markers for the duration of the dinner and made sure we were all enjoying ourselves. I had the special (steak stuffed with mushrooms and cheese (forgot the name of the cheese))- it was delicious and cooked to a perfect medium-rare as requested. The special came with steamed chard greens which were also cooked perfectly and were not over-seasoned (common mistake in my experience). Hubby had a menu item steak. Cook replaced the demi-glace (which had flour) with a gluten-free sauce. Our whole family is gluten/ grain free and the restaurant accommodated us very well. The flourless chocolate cake was the only slightly disappointing item. It was less rich than I was expecting but still good. The space was lovely, warm, and, inviting while boasting a fireplace, wine bar, and live music. We will definitely be returning. It is so wonderful to find a local restaurant with good celebratory fare and adult vibe while ALSO being very accommodating to well-behaved kids.

Stopped by here tonight and had a great dinner. I had the kebabs with quinoa and my wife had a salad with ahi combination. Live band with good tune selection made this a nice surprise for us.

Wow. Based in the Yelp suggestions we stopped in here for lunch on our way from Seattle to Glacier. The food was fantastic and the prices incredibly reasonable. We were so full from our lunch, that we couldn't eat dinner later. And the service was great too (but almost typically French). Worth the stop if you are in the area

Our favorite restaurant in Coeur d'Alene. Consistent high quality meals at a great price. I really love the serving sizes at this restaurant. Great for casual lunch or quiet date.

Don't judge a restaurant by its building/location! Once inside you will be amazed at the ambiance of this incredible restaurant! We've been there several times in the past and have enjoyed not only the presentation, but the food is excellent! Tonight we celebrated our 31st anniversary, and Chris Mueller, the owner, went way above all expectations for our special evening! Todd , the chef, prepared a delectable Chateaubriand with all the trimmings and a slice of carrot cake (made there) to die for! Our server, Aquinnah, was a delight and very attentive. We also were entertained all evening by the incredible Steven King on guitar~ What a lovely evening...this restaurant is definitely one that you should not miss, either as a local or a tourist traveling through our area! Way to go, team! Thanks for the memories!

Great food, nice build-out, good music - and good people... A family-friendly place that's also good for "family" - and "family" traveling with family. Have the vegetable tempura starter, it's a stand out. I had the lamb with a house salad. The dessert I ordered and the ones I shared were all lovely too. Their $6 Pinot Noir by the glass and Muscat with dessert were also memorable. White table linens might make dinner feel more like dinner vs. their lunch sitting... and perhaps a stuffed lake trout over the fireplace vs. the Inuit art might make the long cold CDA winters feel a little less Arctic. All in all this place is a recommend in my book!

just dined at Bistro on Spruce, celebrating my daughter's great report card. Owner, Chris and server, Angela are outstanding. Great food and wine, attentive service, random table side humor, lots of personality here, and I left with a hug! This is what a great small town restaurant should be. BRAVO! We'll be back soon.

My wife and I ate at the Bistro on a drive across country with our three young daughters. It was a very good and pleasurable stop for us. The food is tasty and healthy, which is particularly nice when you're on the road. I had a nice pinot, the squash soup, and a garden salad with chicken. My wife had the salmon. The kids devoured a steak. The Bistro is also very easy to get to off of highway 90, although I don't mean to imply that it's a traveler's restaurant. There were many locals there, as well, and I'd eat there if it were in my home town. The restaurant staff and the owner were extremely friendly and welcoming to us and our kids.

THE HISTORY: Valentines Day 2011, 7:00pm My new husband and I had been working 12hr days and did not plan to do anything for this day. But then out of boredom of the routine we decide we need to get out of town CDA was a short drive but we only go there once a year so it would feel lie "out of town" compared to Spokane. I YELP a list of possible places 6 in all, American, french, Japanese... We get home from work, change our clothes, grab the GPS enter the first place on our list and roll. Forty minutes later from north Spokane to Spruce and 4th in CDA we are there looking, almost running over a lady crossing the street, THERE IT IS! Hmm, almost hidden odd shaped place.... We get to the door and a jovial man in jeans, red dress shirt, and heart tie greets us. He asks if we have reservations, no (after all that was half the fun was just seeing where we could get in with out waiting more than 15 min), he states that it will be about 45 minutes, we ask if we may converse and decide out comes the list I am about to iny-miny-miney-mo the list, when the heart tied man comes back and says "I think I make this work want to play?". Sure that's what this is all about! Table in a small banquet room only 3 other couples in there, it gets quite it was as thought we interrupted a private party , no we were just getting sized up ( black man with white woman in IDAHO!), awkward pause ended all people started talking again. Buss boy is young nice trying to be a gentleman, he did a great job! Enter waiter... We order our drinks (happened to be one of the cheapest wines, what can I say I like cheap sweet wine, and yes we are a cheap couple), our waiter seems none to impressed thus far. He comes back in 10 minutes or so, normally to long but on Valentines day they can be slow with the food but they better be fast with the check, if ya know what I mean ;)! We are torn between two first plates calamari with lime -chipotle or Peppered Cherve with fig.. I am feeling frisky I go with the...Hold on my husband just pointed at what we want.. Our waiter E-NUN-CI-ATES the word CHEV for us with hand motions..mildly patronizing but we play along exclaiming "OH,yes the CHEV" (this is now a running joke at our table). We order the rest of our food, me scallops with leeks, he ordered the stuffed chicken breast. At the end of our meal we were presented with to glasses of chocolate port a very nice gesture for Valentines Day, the owner otherwise know as red shirt and jeans heart tie man came back re lit our ambiance generator otherwise know as candle for us and asked how our time was. Our bill for 2 glasses of wine 1 app and 2 mains $56. Just right! Food = A- my leeks were to leeky the potatoes could of been warmer, but the CHEV was amazing! Service= C+ the waiter flipped his wrists and twirled plus the condescending tone... Price = A the price for the portion and labor was just right, no thoughts of I could of made that at home for much less.

Visiting from Orange County, CA, we had the opportunity to dine out a few times in the CDL area. Bristo on Spruce was a fantastic find. Chris is an engaging host and really made the meal even more enjoyable by 'talking wine' with us and providing a great pairing recommendation. All four in our party oo'd and ah'd over our dinners which were amply portioned and beautifully prepared (especially for the price compared to the Beverly's menu we viewed on-line). Margaret, who owns Mother's Haven, recommended Bristo on Spruce and was spot-on about it being a great neighborhood dinner house with style & sophistication. Would definitely return.
